Objectives

Students learn to design a website, using images, tables, forms and will be able to put them on the internet. Websites are designed using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Prerequisites

Having a fair practical knowledge of and being able to use a computer (managing files and data, using e-mail, using a browser…).

Final objectives

1 Having a basic knowledge of and an insight in HTML/XHTML and CSS and being able to evaluate and combine in a discerning way.

Indicators:

  • Knowing the building up of HTML pages
  • Knowing the most important tags
  • Knowing the difference between relative and absolute hyperlinks and being able to make these in a fluent way -understanding the importance of the separation of the structure (HTML) and the presentation (CSS) of a web page
  • Being able to use CSS in a web page (embedded style sheet, linked style sheet)
  • Knowing the most important CSS characteristics: colour, background colour...

2 Being able to make a (static) website using a website design editor.

Indicators:

  • Being able to work with sites in a website design editor.
  • Being able to:
    • work with hyperlinks (as well as the use of a named anchor).
    • work with lists (ordered and unordered), inclusive of nested lists.
    • work with tables (as well as using header cells, joining cells...
    • work with CSS (tupe selectors and class selectors).
  • Knowing the most important characteristics of graphic file formats (gif, jpeg and png).
  • Including images in web pages.
  • Making a website based on DIVs and tables.
  • Developing forms.
  • Uploading a website.

3 Functioning with complete autonomy and a large degree of initiative.

Indicators:

  • Designing a website and putting it on the internet.
  • Showing creativity in designing a website.
