Objectives

It is appropriate to justify why both sub-courses are included in the program.

Partial course unit histology theory
This sub-course is required for the professional title of “Medical laboratory technologist (MLT) ”(RD june,2 1993).
For the pharmaceutical and biological technologist this sub-course is important in research centers, where samples of human and animal origin can be used (FBT)
The purpose of this sub-course is to build a certain ready-to-use knowledge and acquire insight in the field of tissues of humans (and mammals), and in the relationship between the structure and functioning of the tissue.

Partial course unit histology practice
This sub-course is required for the professional title of “Medical laboratory Technologist (MLT)”(RD, june 2, 1993).
For the pharmaceutical and biological technologist this sub-course is important in research centers, where samples of human and animal origin can be used (FBT)
The purpose of this sub-course is that the student acquires knowledge, skills and an appropriate attitude related to tissues and tissue treatment, to adequatly participate in subsequent courses.
Particular attention is paid to the treatment of a biopsy, where it is necessary that the student itself makes the preparations, colors these, and evaluates the colored sections with a microscope.

Contents

Partial course unit histology theory:
This sub-course consist of the following parts:
Cytology, thematic structure.

Laboratory techniques for the detection of pathological conditions of the cell (with the light-and electron microscopic demonstrable changes), detection of necrosis and degeneration in cell cultures and tissue cultures.
Histology, thematic structure (normal structure and pathological structures for comparison)
Epithelia
Support tissues
Muscle tissues
Gastrointestinal tract
Pancreas
Liver
Female reproductive system
Nervous system
Lungs
Reins
The theory is also demonstrated in the lab where possible.

Partial course unit histology practice:
This sub-course consists of the following components:
Microscopic examination of various stained sections of the in theory discussed tissues.
Cutting, coloring (routine HE staining) and evaluating in paraffin embedded biopsies

Final objectives

Partial course unit histology theory:

Domain-specific Learning Outcome 2
Professional bachelor students of Bio-Medical Laboratory Technology carry out biomedical laboratory activities in a substantiated manner autonomously, reliably and critically. They establish problems, report them and contribute to an acceptable solution.

Domain-specific Learning Outcome M 12 Medical laboratory technology
Professional bachelor students of Pharmaceutical and Biological Laboratory Technology apply the appropriate methods and technologies of the medical-diagnostic field in a scientifically substantiated manner and in varying contexts…

Domain-specific Learning Outcome M12.5
… within the area of anatomo-pathology and in vivo technology

Domain-specific Learning Outcome F 12 Pharmaceutical and biological laboratory technology
