Objectives

The aim of this course is that the students get to know the different operating systems in a mainframe environment. Furthermore, they will study the most prevalent architecture of a mainframe environment. Finally, they will learn how a mainframe is administered and secured.The students will learn how to develop programs which exchange data with the different database servers on a mainframe system. They will learn how to manage a DB2 database and, how to develop CICS transactions.

Contents

Transactional systems : CICS 
DB2 : table spaces and indices.
Using databases from a Cobol program.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Prerequisites

Databases II, OO-programming II, Introduction to the mainframe, Batch applications.

Final objectives

Partial competence 1: Is able to develop CICS transactions.(TI01)

Indicators:

  • Is able to develop, debug and execute transactions;

  • Is able to discuss, maintain and optimize existing transactions.


Partial competence 2: Is able to manage a DB2 database.(TI05)

Indicators:

  • Is able to create database objects;

  • Is able to modify existing database objects;

  • Is able to execute DML and DDL statements using SPUFI.


Partial competence 3: Is able to use a DB2 database from a Cobol program. (TI01)

Indicators:

  • Is able to manipulate (to read, to add or to update) data in a relational database from a Cobol program.

     Partial competence 4: To aim at task fulfilment to a high standard in order to achieve results that meet the requirements. (ABC2)
