Objectives

To be able to install a computer network for a small-to-medium business, to understand the functionality of it and to support users of this kind of network.

Final objectives

Partial competence 1:

To be able to work solution solving in the sense of being able independently to define and analyze complex problems in the professional practice and to develop and apply useful solution strategies (ABC2)

Indicators:

  • Being able to solve network connectivity problems

Partial competence 2:

Provide installation, security, management and control of IT infrastructure (TI08)

To be able to install an elementary computer network

Indicators:

2.1. Being able to elaborate addressing schemes for a given network.

2.2. Knowledge of the use of routers and switches


To understand and being able to apply the basic principles of routers and switches in a computer network.

Study guidance

The lectures are restricted to the minimum so that the students can exercise the competencies to be achieved using laboratory assignments that can be carried out in their own pace. They can count on individual guidance and feedback as they encounter difficulties.

Evaluation

  • First exam session:
    • non-period bound evaluation: 30% 
    • period bound evaluation: 70% written examination
  • Second exam session:
    • 100% written examination
