Objectives

Students understand, can summarize and analyze job-oriented ans topical texts (reading and listening comprehension). Students can write correct English. (Oral skills are practisez and tested in English language practice I). Students can consult and process information in English. Students acquire relevant job-orieneted language structures: grammar, vocabulary.

Contents

Revising and enhancing grammar through various exercises.

Enhancing general vocabulary systematically.

Studying topical and study-related texts.

Further developping the four basic skills:reading, listening, speaking and writing.

Basics of translation.

Prerequisites

A sound basic knowledge of English

Final objectives

Core competence 1: understands the most essential points out of socio-economic and work related announcements and texts.(listening and reading: B1)

Indicators:

- understands oral English texts concerning socio-economic or work related topics when claerly spoken standard language is being used.

- understands English texts that are mainly made up of commonly used vocabulary and that talk about socio-economic or work related items.

- understands the description of events and desires in English commercial announcements.

Core competence 2: communicates in English, both orally and written in non-complex situations (oral production, writing A2)

Indicators:

- uses the vocabulary and grammar, already acquired in previous years, to talk and write about socio-economic and work related topics in a simple, but accurate language.

- communicates, without preparation, short and simple messages in English.

- translates uncomplicated sentences from Dutch into English and the other way around.

- writes simple summaries in English, e.g. a newspaper article.

Core competence 3: communicates about simple and every days activities that talk about an easy and immediate exchange of information about familiar topics and activities.

Indicator:

- answers questions about individual or in group prepared texts correct and completely.?
